Blimey - I certainly wouldn't have thought I would ever use a title like that for one of my reviews!

I've recently added a 2k run to my fitness regimen, and whilst that may not be an enormous distance to all you 'ultimate runners', to a relatively unfit 42 year old that IS A LONG DISTANCE! My low carb and higher protein diet that I have been subsisting on for the last few months has been great for losing pounds and building muscle, but I've found I'm just not getting enough energy for my run. The last thing I want to do is to resort to sugar and chemical packed energy drinks, so that's why I grabbed this book, looking for some healthy alternatives.

In the first couple of chapters alone the author provides 4 weeks worth of healthy, simple carb pre-run snacks (not refined nasties) and I've been using these before my trips to the gym too. There are also plans and recipes for every meal of the day, as well as tips for eating out, advice on supplements, energy drinks, meal replacement bars and more. In short, this book provides all the information you need for a healthy, tasty, affordable diet that will optimize you as a runner.

Did a quick read through and found some interesting information, but plan on taking a much slower review to glean all of the good information and implement it into my daily/weekly eating habits.
I have a lot of running books and honestly I was expecting more out of this book. While it does have some recipes, it is very small and doesn't have much content in it. I was looking for something with more substance.

This is a nicely done book that talks about not only the 'how', but also the 'why'. Rather than just going over the dieting tips and recipes for runners, this book addresses the science and reasoning behind the tips and techniques.

The Ultimate Runner's Diet is more than just a collection of recipes. The book addresses all the other aspects of diet such as whether to take supplements, energy bars etc.

Highly recommend for those who are looking for a complete diet for runners.
Although this book is not stating anything revolutionary, it provides a massive amount of practical meal and pre/post run snack ideas. Furthermore, it outlines why each food & food combination is recommended, so once you feel comfortable creating your own meals, you are armed with the knowledge needed to do so properly.

This book is for people new to "eating like a runner." By that I mean people who know the basics; for instance, what percentage of our food should come from carbs, from proteins, and from fats, but who might not know exactly what that looks like on their plate at every meal. This book helps with that in a very practical and user-friendly way.

Please note the book is *mostly* a list of meal ideas. Literally. There are 4 weeks worth of meal ideas for each of the following pre-run snack, post-run snack, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It was fantastic for me, but nutrition guru's are not going to find anything new here, and will likely be disappointed. I give this 5 stars instead of 4, however, because I think it is perfect for its intended audience.
As someone who has lost weight and is pretty new to doing intense cardio exercise, I've been very inspired lately to finally try running. I was so happy to find this book as I've been having some questions about how I might need to change up my diet to accommodate a new routine.

The book is very well laid out and the information is presented in a way that is very easy to understand. Many of the questions I've been having are to do with the amounts of energy I will be using as I increase my running and the amounts of calories needed to do so. I thought the book did an excellent job of speaking to both of those points.

I really love that the book includes actual daily meal plans and suggestions and also love the bonus material on Smoothies...lots of great recipes here!

Very well done and I recommend this to anyone who is going to be running regularly.
The ultimate runner's diet is pack with good insights on what you need to eat if you're deciding to get serious with running! I have been a body building over the years and know a lot about protein to build muscle. It is a lot different when it comes to taking up running. It is more about the right types of carbs that you need to sustain the body for longer periods and has a well balanced breakdown of the three main essentials you need.

The author has put together a great 4 week meal plan that gets you on the right track with food. There lots of whole foods that are high in water content, which is also great as far as hydration goes. I love the different smoothie and juice recipes too, there is to make. There are a few things that I am change to suit me needs with regards to the diet plan, but all in all it will assist you to achieve better results with your training.
